This newly created role in Canberra, is for you if you enjoy being customer-centric, promoting sustainable waste management practices through both educational outreach and operational management.

You will be confident, resilient and driven with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with shopping centre management, tenants, and contractors to foster environmentally responsible waste practices in a high growth, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities include

You will have a commitment to safety and customer service and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Educating shopping centre tenants on the correct use of bins and waste management practices.
  • Participating in development and conduct of waste education programmes and presentations.
  • Oversee and manage daily waste operations at shopping centre loading docks.
  • Perform routine inspections of waste bins and storage areas to ensure compliance with recycling guidelines and standards.
  • Ensure proper segregation of waste streams, including general waste, recyclables, and organics.
  • Maximise recycling opportunities by monitoring waste segregation and minimising contamination.
  • Respond to operational waste-related issues or emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate waste removal services with contractors and ensure efficient waste management practices. 
  • Maintain required contractual KPIs and report back to internal administration as needed.   
  • Undertake all tasks with a critical eye for safety, ensuring all relevant safety standard and procedures are adhered to.  

Who you are

You’ll have:

  • Experience in waste management, education, training, recycling or environmental services (highly desirable).
  • You’ll be a great communicator, with the ability to engage and educate.
  • Good understanding of OHS&E principles for day-to-day operations in waste management.
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to problem solve in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently, to make decisions and/or escalate where necessary.
  • Understanding of waste segregation and recycling processes.
  • A passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environment /Education (desirable).
