About the role:

We have an opportunity for an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Advisor to join the team on a 12-month fixed term contract. The role will be based out of the Mascot, NSW head office, with travel across multiple states when required

 You’ll work across a variety of existing projects, provide support and guidance to our operations regarding environmental risk management, advise on regulatory matters and assist in sustaining and improving internal strategies.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the team on National Environment Strategies. 
  • Assist National Health, Safety & Compliance Manager with integrated management plans and various project
  • Provide project support and research for Technical Team
  • Support HSEQ Advisors with environmental knowledge.
  • Work with each BU/Site to facilitate proactive relationships with relevant regulatory bodies (EPA etc.) in each judication to ensure proactive relationships for future licencing requirements and reacting to incidents.
  • Assist with incident investigation, including regulatory and parent requirement reporting.
  • Support the development and execution of national environmental standards, guidance and tools to drive standardisation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide specialist environmental support to the business including due diligence, impact abatement, licensing and subject matter support for tenders.
  • Proactively progress environmental compliance and reinforce escalation and reporting processes to protect people, the environment and operational assets.
  • Ensure the business is supported for all environmental audits, including regulatory compliance, certification, customer specific and internal audits.
  • Support business units and management with environmental regulatory interaction (including engagement, reporting, response notices, and requests for information).
  • Review Policies and Procedures when required.
  • Conduct site visits nationally, providing environmental training, response drills and site inspections.

 

Who you are

  • Tertiary qualification in environmental sciences or relevant disciplines.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar position within the waste industry or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing projects of a similar nature within a complex organisation.
  • Capability to undertake research on best practice, evidence-based strategies, or relevant policies, and translate this to an organisational context.
  • Confident analytical skills, including reporting utilising MS Excel on an intermediate level.
  • Motivated to influence key stakeholders across all levels (internal & external) regarding policies, planning, processes and regulatory requirements with a positive approach.
  • Exposure across ISO compliance and auditing requirements.
  • Collaborative team member, who engages, shares and participates in a supportive setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages.
