About the role:

The Mitchell Operations Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the daily operations and leading the team at the resource management centre.  The position is required to ensure efficiency and ensure safety of the public and our employees.  They will also be required to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the RMC, including the management of site traffic movements and assisting customers with separating waste and recyclables, to achieve the goal of high levels of waste diversion from landfill. The role also ensures that the site is kept to the standard outlined by the ACT Government.

This is a great role for a person who wants to start in a career get into operation management. The supervisor will ensure that all staff members are properly trained in the roles and continue their professional development through upskilling the staff. The supervisor will also manage the payroll component of the site and liaise with various external stakeholders regarding the day-to-day management of staff. 

You will have the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor the effective operation of the RMC by providing direction, on the job training, guidance and establishing safe work practices, rosters and procedures to meet the needs of the facilities.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of sound risk management processes.
  • Responsible for the supervision of employees and relevant contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with Municipal policies and procedures and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
  • Accountable for the efficient and timely operations and work practices of the centre.
  • Ensure the centre is in a clean and safe operational state
  • Work with our subcontractors to ensure that recyclable materials are picked up on a regular basis
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate repairs and maintenance are undertaken at the facility
  • Maintain work rosters as required, timesheet submission (KRONOS) and to liaise with our labour hire providers where required
  • Identify hazards and implement necessary procedures to remediate the hazard
  • Explain disposal procedures to customers to ensure correct unloading of materials and minimise mingling of waste.

Who you are:

  • Previous experience in a similar role which demonstrates a clear understanding and capacity to undertake the key job requirements.  
  • Experience using earthmoving equipment (Front End Loader and Material Handler)
  • Team player, willing to pitch in, support and help when required.
  • Training and mentoring of colleagues (especially in earthmoving equipment).
  • Experience driving HR or MC preferred (HR licence desired).
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, coupled with organisational skills.
  • Understanding of government requirements (reporting and timelines).
  • Influencing and negotiating skills
